Rock Climbing for Siem Reap Youth

Donation protected
Hi my name is Paul Lougheed. I'm raising funds ($3465) in partnership with a good friend of ours in Siem Reap, Cambodia, Sry Kimsroy (Kim). Our family met Kim in 2011 and have kept in close contact since.

The project aims to build a Bouldering Wall in Siem Reap for the young people of the area (concept below) as part of the first stage of a rock climbing school.

Kim has been a qualified sport climbing instructor for the last 12 years (SEACF), teaching Siem Reap rock climbing to the young people of Siem Reap. He is passionate about rock climbing, teaching young people and creating pathways to represent their town, province and country.

The establishment of this rock-climbing wall is critical at this time. Last year Siem Reaps Angkor Rock Climbing wall was closed permanently, leaving many with a passion for the sport without a venue to train, learn and socialise.

On top of this, COVID has significantly impacted the Siem Reap community. Kim was previously employed in the Tourism sector, which was hit particularly hard. Kim has had to find other work and has also focused his energy on this project

Kim has advised that many young people are not in school. Many are disengaged and do not have access to sporting opportunities and equipment. Kim would like to see these changes so that these children can re-engage, find purpose, learn new skills, develop confidence and ultimately represent their country at elite levels.

The wall will be set up as a not for profit business, in an area of land rented over the next two years. The climbing wall will be supported by a team of instructors and will be the first stage of re-establishing a rock-climbing school in Siem Reap.

The project is being organised by local people who just need help with fundraising ($3,475) Any contribution will have a big impact!

Funds will be used directly for the establishment of a bouldering wall (concept design below) which will be used for rock climbing lessons for the youth of Siem Reap. It is envisaged that at least 30-40 students per day will use the wall. The full quote has been included.

With the money raised to date locals have been able to start the project (see below)
